As It Happened
I will tell you everything he had said when he had left her two weeks ago. He could sense her sadness even through her smile.
"Do not worry," he said as he pressed her hand "I will come back soon and then tell you everything and get some pictu..” 'his sentence was not finished.
She smiled and nodded in understanding. He had left for that vacation to
He had been her friend for as long as he could recall. They were neighbors and the duo had been inseparable. He had to go to school, though she could not accompany him but every other time they were together. He would retell her school tales and read the books and create a world with words. The fairy tales, the mysteries, the magic all would dance around them as he narrated the worlds of make believe which she would believe in with all her heart.
The dragons and demons and the shy princesses in search of the princes, the long paths through magical lands the elves and goblins the secret chants all he would remember for her. He never ever read the stories but narrated them as they came from those lands which existed in other time and place. The only regret he had was, however, hard he tried he was not sure if she understood what he was trying to tell her.
Because, for her the colors were just words, light she had not seen. Her world had been dark from birth. She would feel his face with her soft hands and try to find how he looked. It was like a blind sculptor trying to find a form. She did not go to school but a teacher came to teach her Braille at home.
He wanted her to understand the minute differences of color but it was just impossible to tell her what butter yellow was and what sunshine yellow meant, the blue of the sky was different from the blue of the ocean and yet he wanted to tell her how flowers danced on green carpets and stars tried to peep through clouds as naughty children.
He tried his best though and today he was standing near a fountain and as he heard to the legend he smiled a big smile. He can do this. She will now understand every word he said.
He took the coins closed his eyes and then threw them in the fountain.
Tinkerbell was there looking as the wishes were rising from the fountain to go to heaven. She immediately caught hold of them in her small palm looked tenderly. The little boy had looked so sad and Tinkerbell had to work to put a smile on his small face.
She decided to follow him and then she could immediately connect with his mind. She could see his friend in another country and understood the whole situation. Tinkerbell got to work as she flipped through the pages of all her important contacts she found whom she needed.
It has to be Dr. Scott ...yes she decided and where is he? She thought. He was the only
And now I want him to go to
Now Tinkerbell went back to the fountain she cannot neglect her workplace and waited and then she took her crystal ball. She could see
You have to do it Tinkerbell they said. She smiled but was tired with all the work.
The waves took her messages to the respective people.
He was back from his
As the first light touched the sky he fell asleep and he slept through the day. In his dreams he saw her sitting with him as he told her of the countries he had been to.
It was towards the evening when he woke up with a start. It was almost six in the evening.
He noticed his parents were having tea. He joined them and then after some time he went to her house. Her mother opened the door.
"Oh you have come back" Their love for each other was accepted and respected in both the families.
"Where is she I have so much to tell?"
"Oh she had an eye surgery, she will be opening her eyes soon."
The doctor allowed him to be in the room. It was time to watch and wait. Miracle HAD happened he felt a tingling sensation.
"Open your eyes..." the doctor was telling her.
He was another doctor not Dr. Scott though. Dr. Scott had left an assistant doctor to take care.
She slowly opened her eyes and everyone looked at her in anticipation and slowly her lips twitched and then a smile wrinkled her face.
"Yes I can see ...she shouted. It was a confused happiness with delicate tears.
He was crying and laughing and felt so very happy. This was a miracle definitely a miracle. The three coins he thought with a smile.
Everyone talked and everyone smiled through tears and suddenly she shouted.
"I can see no more it is all getting black." She screamed
All ran to her and made her rest. Frantic calls followed and Dr. Scott listened to everything.
Then he replied seriously. "This was the only thing I was scared that sight might be regained and then get ..lost...forever. I am sorry nothing more can be done."
Everything suddenly changed her mother was crying and she was shocked to react. He could think of nothing as his dreams of sharing his trip with her had vanished.
He controlled himself and slipped his hand through hers. He could feel her silent sobs.
He let her cry and it was late that night when he went to his home to sleep.
He did not believe in miracles. No fairies existed and nothing could grant wishes he thought as he slept. That night he lost his belief in the fairies.
The next day came early he felt. Gone was the light hearted feeling, gone was his enthusiasm. He got ready he will visit her and try to be as normal as he can.
When he rang her bell he was trying to control his feelings.
'Come in... She is still sleeping go to her room and try to make her smile ..."her mother's voice was choking.
He entered her room
"Good morning" he said in a voice with effort and tried to make it sound happy.
She opened her eyes not that it mattered …..any more now
He looked at her with tears pricking his eyes.
Sudden scream made him come out of the reverie.
'I can see ...I can see..'she was smiling laughing dancing.
"What?..."
Everyone came to her room. She could see clearly then, why she could not the other day.
Dr. Scott came on the phone and then as he was speaking her father put the mobile on the speaker as everyone wanted to hear.
Dr. Scott laughed loudly.
"My dear girl every evening when the night comes the evening light fades as darkness sets in. Your room became dark as there was no light there to protect your eyes, simple."
Everyone laughed and he cried and smiled and blamed himself. He had narrate all the tales about demons and dragons, and fairy queens and rivers that spoke of flowers on the sky and fragrant winds, but he had not told her that the night makes everyone blind.
"I am sorry to have misled you. "
"What..." she looked surprised.
They smiled at each othe with complete understanding.
Tinkerbell was near the fountain when she had heard the sobs.
What happened? She tried to remember she had been sleeping so tired she was before she could complete and then she had worked hard again to complete the miracle.
All the fairies were smiling and nodding in the heavens
